Does your school offer the 6 best majors for jobs of the future?

Computer science and engineering are among the six majors and fields of study that can best prepare students to secure a job of the future, according to a new study from Indeed.

Our take

Aligning Today’s Learning With Jobs of the Future recently did an assessment of the best fields of study based on employer demand. A comparison of this list to a list of the most popular fields of study shows some definite disconnects. What role should schools — at both the K-12 and higher ed levels – play in helping students align their educational aspirations with future job potential?

It’s important for schools, and students, to stay attuned to current and future skill demands to ensure a qualified pipeline of interested and educated candidates to meet employer needs. While, not surprisingly, computer-related and engineering jobs rank high in terms of demand, there are opportunities for those who are more interested in the liberal arts to augment their studies with certificates, internships and on-the-job training. Teachers can play an important role in helping to engage students in STEM-related content from an early age.
