Students Have Phones—Will You Let Them Use Them?

Today’s students are increasingly armed with cell phones—most of the smartphone variety. Generally, the use of these phones in the classroom is frowned upon, both at the K-12 and higher ed levels. But, is it time to embrace, rather than ban, cell phones in the classroom?

This author thinks so and make a compelling case for why it might not be such a bad idea. Since students have smartphones and know how to use them quite effectively, they could prove a natural tool for getting them to engage in appropriate ways with online content. At a minimum, it’s worth consideration.
