Our take

Raising the Bar on OER

Open Educational Resources (OER) represent a wide range of options available from traditional and newly emerging providers. After several years under development, the Smithsonian recently introduced its own offering, the Smithsonian Learning Lab. What opportunities might these new resources represent for your classroom?

Not all OER are created equal and it can be time-consuming to wade through the options to select reliable tools and content to share with students. But, OER are proving to offer some sound alternatives to higher-priced textbook options, both in terms of costs and access to up-to-date information. Offerings from institutions like the Smithsonian provide access to high quality content from a trusted source.
