LinkedIn has long been known as a recruitment-focused site, but it’s trying to change that through an aggressive foray into education. Its acquisition of the online learning site Lynda.com was a first step. Most recently the company announced the launch of a new educational platform—LinkedIn Learning. What opportunities or challenges might these moves represent for educators and administrators?

While LinkedIn Learning is geared toward online learners in work settings, the concept and the way it’s being applied can be instructive for teachers at all levels of education. As learning extends beyond traditional structured schedules and settings, learning to leverage technology in ways that resonate with learners of all ages will become increasingly important. Schools need to train teachers on how to combine technology with traditional teaching methods. If teachers are aware of best practices, they can put themselves, along with their students, in control of their learning environment.
