There’s plenty of advantages for students who learn languages, research suggests. Now the process of learning other languages is easier and more accessible than ever before thanks to a wide range of language learning apps that can make language-learning fun. School systems are often challenged to offer foreign language courses; and, even if they can, the options may be limited. Could technology help?

As this article illustrates, technology is making possible the development of a wide range of apps designed to introduce students to other languages. Some of these may hold promise as tools for use in K-12 classrooms, or options to augment existing instruction. There also are opportunities to support ESL instruction.
